Treasury

In addition to budget development and oversight, the Treasury is charged with the production of postage stamps and currency, as well as maintaining both the digital and physical archives of the principality.

Currency

The official currency of Sylvestria is the Sylvestrian LETZ. The name of the currency stems from the acronym for the economic community in which the currency first gained acceptance: the Sylvestrian Local Economic Trade Zone.

The LETZ is a commodity-backed currency, with 1 LETZ equal to the local market value of 100 grams of buckwheat. You may have been told money doesn't grow on trees. That may be true, but in Sylvestria, it does grow in fields.

The first coinage issue had a total value of 100 LETZ with 100 aluminum coins struck in November 2023, each with a 1 LETZ face value. These first series "Lone Pine" coins were slowly removed from circulation beginning in July 2024 and are now seen by some as numismatic oddities worthy of collection. A new series of coins with face values of 1 and 5 LETZ and domestically struck with commercially manufactured dies is expected to be released in early 2025.

Postage Stamps

The first series of postage stamps issued in January 2024 featured the simple arms of Sylvestria and had a face value of 1 LETZ. Nearly a dozen letters were sent internationally with these stamps. However, the lack of a postal agreement with the neighboring United States of America resulted in all of these letters being returned for insufficient postage.

The second series of postage stamps was issued in July 2024 and featured the national flag of the Principality of Sylvestria, also with a 1 LETZ value. The third and final 2024 issue of postage stamps is expected in October 2024 and will feature the Arms of Dominion of the Principality of Sylvestria and a face value of 1 LETZ.

Archives

In addition to financial planning and the production of coinage and stamps, the Treasury also safeguards the official archives of Sylvestria. Among the important documents held are the Tel Kappa Concordat, the Ballovia Accord, and important correspondence received from foreign leaders. The Treasury also serves as the repository for items identified as "Great Works" of Sylvestria including notable works of art, music, and literature produced by Sylvestrians.
